Popping my blog cherry

Firstly a word of introduction - up to now I'd never understood what the big deal was with blogging, it seemed to me like just another time-wasting opportunity on the net right up there with instant messaging and multiplayer gaming. Then yesterday I read an article in the Guardian about baby blogging, which started out gently mocking the blogger parents who thought anyone could be vaguely interested in the minutiae of babies' and toddlers' lives, but ended up painting a picture of blogs more as online newsletters for far-flung family and friends. (OK that wasn't quite the conclusion of the piece, but it's the impression I was left with.) Seeing as we have family in 5 countries (at least), this was starting to sound like not a bad idea. And so here goes.

I'll start by back-tracking a few days as some fun stuff happened earlier in the week and it's nice to get it in the first entry.

Last Sunday morning we took the kids for a walk in the woods (between Lamadrid and El Tejo). It was a gorgeous sunny day, but the trees had kept out most of the sun's rays and the ground was still damp and muddy in places from the rain 2 days previously. Jamie had brought a bag with her to collect things - an acorn, a chestnut, oak leaf, etc. - and had a lovely time. Danny enjoyed walking on his own, not holding hands. He'd learned to say 'bos' (woods) that morning, and kept practicing it. Then after we'd been walking for about 40 minutes and were thinking about heading back to the car, he suddenly pipes up with "Papa, uit bos, brrrum brrrrum." (uit = out). In other words, I've had enough of this, daddy, let's go back to the car. Suffice to say we cracked up!

As there was still some time before lunch, we drove to Oyambre beach for coffee in the beach cafe (served in disposable plastic cups, which NEVER happens in Spain. Ask for coffee 'to go' here and you usually get a very blank look.). Then we finished our walk on the beach, Jamie adding barnacles, oysters and various other shells to her collection of bits. A very pleasant morning.
